FEBRUARY 11th 2010 early morning snow dust, but dry!
Computer upgrades complete now, bar some trivial glitches. Just need to finish upgrading ourselves to work with them!
Our 13 year old Renault Master has also been upgraded. She was about to be banned from shopping in Knightsbridge as the next phase of the London low pollution regulations come into force; we have taken advantage of the government scrappage scheme to say good bye to her. Our thanks to a very efficient service from SMC Renault who have supplied her replacement as well as negotiating the scrappage scheme paperwork for us.
We also lost our old 7.5 Tonne truck to the first wave of the same London low pollution regulations in 2008. Add to this the old marquee heater oil storage tank that went (after careful decontamination) to the final phase of the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001.
We now have a brand new bunded oil storage tank (won't pollute anything, especially in a power cut as oil has to be pumped out!) No doubt both scrapped vehicles and the old tank will meet again in some land fill site. (After being stripped of anything recycleable we hope.)
20th JANUARY 2010 Rain, sleet & snow today but none settled.
Our long awaited computer & software upgrade began yesterday. Stage one is now complete; stock control, quotation, accounting & communications are all operational.
Thanks are due to TSS who supply our All Hire software for a swift response to various bugs.
The only glitch customers are likely to notice (we hope) is in the production of marquee plans. Delays can be expected while we train ourselves to use the planning software. (Old dog new tricks!)
9th JANUARY 2010 8" of snow outside and yet everyone in work on time!
News Flash! The Claremont Marquees 2009 photo prize was awarded today. Most of the submissions were wedding marquee photos; the rest were party marquees. The standard of entries was fantastic! Any one of these photos could have been a worthy winner and there was much debate over the final result. However this was the one that got most votes overall, and which we agreed had all the elements we were looking for.
The winning entrant has been notified and will shortly receive a case of champagne. Click here for the winning photo and a selection of other entries.
Our thanks to everyone who entered photos. It really is a privilege for us to see how wonderful you make our marquees look. It is also a great help to us and future clients when trying to decide on the best look for an event.
Little else happens in January so we are concentrating on cleaning (click here for photo), maintenance and PAT testing electrical equipment for the rest of the month. Also will try to move into 2010 by starting a blog. If all works OK try clicking here to find it.
DECEMBER 2009
A relatively quiet December. Most notable events were a marquee for The Army (if we told you more we'd have to shoot you), and erecting a marquee in the snow for the local police.
1st NOVEMBER 2009 half an inch of rain in two hours and guess what we are doing.
Taking down a free charity fund raising marquee for CHASE hospice in driving rain at 8am Sunday morning. Thanks to Karen for the much needed hot tea and sausage sandwiches! Hope all was a success.
We will finish the month working on the Chelsea Physic Garden Christmas Fair. This is a great place to buy Christmas gifts as well as your last chance to visit these wonderful gardens (unless you are a friend) until their winter snowdrop openings on 6th, 7th, 13th & 14th February 2010, 10am-4pm entry from Swan Walk SW3.
The other highlight of November was being appointed at the last minute to supply marquees for two separate events at Quintessentially Soho's charitable pop up members lounge at The House of st Barnabas. This was a tough one.
- 2' wide access route with dog leg.
- difficult shape garden with steps , borders and sculpture in the way.
- hard to avoid restricting fire exits.
- narrow time constraints for erection and clearance.
- impossible parking and unloading restrictions.
Anyway, mission acomplished before heading into December.
